How Often Should I Wash My Car?

Publicado por Zunsport - 3rd May, 2024

Anyone who takes pride in their vehicle should know that keeping a car washed and clean is an important part of car ownership. Regular car washing doesn't just keep your motor presentable, it's also good for the long term health and performance of your car.

How Often For A Regular Wash?

It's usually recommended that car owners wash their vehicles once every two weeks throughout the year to keep a car in good condition. This should involve washing the exterior of your car with car shampoo and, ideally, rinsing it down with a hose or a pressure washer first to get rid of some of the dirt before you start sponging.

You might want to use this time to give the inside of your car a quick tidy and vacuum, particularly if you're often giving lifts to other people - there's not much grimmer than crisp crumbs on the backseat!

A Quick Once Over As And When Needed

Of course, there will be times in between your regular car washes that your car will naturally end up dirtier than usual, such as if you go for a drive on a wet weekend. It's a good idea to give your car a quick once over after these outings to stop dirt and mud from accumulating between washes.

You might also need to wash your car a little more often if you park it underneath a tree, where sap and bird droppings can build up quite quickly.

What About My Car Grille?

If your car sports an impressive grille, you'll want to pay particular attention to this with each wash. Dirt, grit, and mud can easily build up inside your grille, particularly after driving around on dusty, gravel paths. The more dirt that builds up inside your grille, the harder it is to keep clean, so it's a good idea to keep on top of it and give your grille a once over every fortnight.

The dirtier your grille is, the more you risk accidentally damaging it when you do wash it.

Washing Your Car During Lockdown

Lockdown is as good a time as any to hone your car washing skills, as most car washes are closed and it's not wise to visit garages for non-essential reasons such as car washing anyway. If you're not stocked up, you can pick up car shampoo and wax during your next shopping trip, and make the most of the current good weather by spending some of it giving your car a little TLC.
